Owner/Dance Teacher

Kerry Duggan

Kerry is the owner and founder of Southside Dance Academy and is very excited to meet all her new dancers. She began dancing at the age of 2 with Pearl De Marco, training in tap, modern and street dance. During her teenage years, she continued her training at Buchanan Dance Academy, where she became a fully qualified B.A.T.D. dance teacher at just 16 and went on to teach at the school. Kerry also holds a dance leadership qualification through YDance UK.

 

At University, Kerry studied a Masters in Civil Engineering whilst also attending Glasgow University DanceMania where she broadened her dance range and took classes in tap, hip-hop, commercial, bollywood, jazz, burlesque, lyrical, contemporary, highland and pom. Kerry quickly became a dance teacher at GUDM over her 5 years of uni teaching a range of dance styles such as tap, hip-hop, commercial, finale numbers, comp wildcard and comp hiphop. She was also an active member of the GUDM competition team representing the University of Glasgow in St Andrews, Edinburgh, Newcastle and Northumbria. As part of the GUDM committee for 4 years, she held roles including General Member, show convenor, Vice-President and President, gaining extensive experience in running weekly dance classes, large scale shows shows, socials and fundraising events.

 

Outside of dance, Kerry is a full time Structural Engineer but continues to pursue her love of dance by attending weekly dance classes across Glasgow including the famous Slayhouse. She also has extensive experience working with young children, having coacjed primary school netball for 6 years with All Star Junior Netballers.

In 2025, Kerry was nominated for 'Most Organised Dance Teacher' and 'Dance Teacher Who Gives The Most Opportunities' at the prestigious Move It Shake It Awards. In 2026 Kerry was a finalist in the Scottish Dance Awards for 'Teacher of the Year' and a finalist in the Golden Dance Awards Scotland for 'Dance Teacher of the Year'.
