Message from the Owner

Welcome to Southside Dance Academy - a brand new dance school located in Netherlee and Stamperland Parish Church Hall, Glasgow. Classes run on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings for students age 2+ in a range of styles including tap, jazz, commercial, hip-hop and pom.

Classes are run by myself, Kerry Duggan, a fully qualified B.A.T.D. dance teacher with over 10 years of teaching experience. I am also the former President of Glasgow University DanceMania. Choreographing over 15 routines for the University, I have also led the University of Glasgow's Comp Hip-Hop Team in competitions across the UK.

The unique selling points of Southside Dance Academy:

No exams = no pressure. Classes are structured to encourage dancers to develop their own style and grow in confidence without the added pressure of being graded or their progress being restricted to a syllabus.
Each dance is upbeat and has commercial/hiphop influences to drive out performance and style.
Pom classes will be a unique combination of traditional pom and NFL sideline cheerleading.
I still continue to train in dance to ensure my choreography and classes are evolving with the rest of the dance world.
Adult commercial classes - the first of its kind in the Southside.
Competition teams to be added in the future.

Alongside show routines, dancers will learn combinations and improve their performance skills. We look forward to putting on our first show in Summer 2025 and to other performance opportunities.

We aim to create a safe, creative and enjoyable environment where dancers can call their home and make friends for life. I'm excited to be bringing some sass to the Southside and can't wait to meet you all.

CLASS TIMETABLE

All classes held in Netherlee and Stamperland Parish Church Hall, G44 3SL. Classes begin 27th August.

TwinkleToes (Preschool)

The preschool class is a great way for your child to interact with others their age prior to attending school. They will learn the basics of dance and movement through fun games and exercises. This class aims to develop their coordination, balance and confidence. Note children must be at least 2 years old and preferably toilet trained.

Mini Rockers (P1-P3)

Our minis will extend their dance knowledge through fun and upbeat routines. They will build a strong foundation in a variety of dance styles and continue to develop their rhythm and performance skills through dance games.

Junior Jammers (P4-P6)

The junior classes are designed to introduce technique and enhance dance comprehension through across the floor exercises. Students will continue to explore performance and musicality through multiple routines.

Dancing Divas (P7-S5)

Seniors will will be exposed to more advanced skills, technique and choreography. They will be introduced to a multitude of combinations to improve memory retention. They will be encouraged to find their own unique style which will allow them to grow on and off the dance floor.

Adults Commercial - Southside Sass (General Level)

Open to complete beginners to advanced dancers. Classes involve a warmup and learning a new combination each week from Britney to Dua Lipa. This is a great social way for adults to improve their fitness by picking up an old hobby or by trying something new. It's also perfect for those who have graduated from their dance school (16+) but wish to continue their love of dance.

DANCE STYLES

Southside Dance Academy offers a variety of different dance styles whilst covering technique and performance skills

Tap dance classes, Southside Dance Academy, Dance Classes East Renfrewshire

Tap

Tap shoes have special metal pieces at the heel and toe which are used to create specific sounds to the beat of the music. Tap classes will be used to improve rhythm and musicality.

Jazz

Jazz will feature high energy routines which challenges dancers to bring out their performance faces. These classes will have influences of musical theatre and commercial. Dancers are guaranteed to put on a show.

Commercial

Commercial is a sassy dance style traditionally to girl power bangers such as Britney, Beyonce and Dua Lipa. These type of routines are typically seen in music videos and TV adverts.

Hip-Hop

This involves fast paced choreography with sharp movements. Energy and performance are the key factors to mastering this style. Creative routines will be used to showcase the dancers' personalities.

Pom

This dynamic genre of dance features turns, kicks and jumps. Classes will be a unique combination of traditional pom and NFL sideline cheerleading. Power based choreography will be used to wow the crowd. Dancers will work as a team to demonstrate a variety of formations.
